RANCHO CORDOVA, CA, June 23, 2008 – Superior Vision
today announced Superior Vision’s SmartAlert, a set of communications tools that
fosters information sharing between members, their Superior Vision eye care
providers, and the members’ primary care physicians or specialists. Since vision
exams can play an important role in the accurate diagnosis and monitoring of
conditions that can impact an individual’s total wellness or overall systemic
health issues, it’s important for patients to be able to empower their doctors
to share diagnosis and treatment information.
According to Superior Vision CEO Rick Corbett, the concept behind
SmartAlert is simple. “SmartAlert helps our members gain a broader perspective
on their overall health, while allowing their physicians to benefit from each
other’s knowledge when diagnosing and treating patients.”
Mr. Corbett also noted that SmartAlert is designed to protect patient
privacy. “SmartAlert was conceived with patient privacy in mind. Participation
in the program is completely voluntary, and any information that’s shared is
entirely at the discretion of the patient.” Mr. Corbett also notes that getting
started with SmartAlert is as simple as a mouseclick. “All the necessary forms
are available right through the secure web portal at SuperiorVision.com –
there’s no enrollment necessary or signup process to complete. Members can print
the SmartAlert materials at home and bring them along to their appointment, or
providers can print them right there in the office.”
Zon Dunn, Vice President of Provider Relations for Superior Vision,
explains, “The providers we recruit are not everyday physicians – they’re
doctors specially trained to identify signs and symptoms of eye and vision
disorders, along with medical conditions and general health issues which may
affect vision, including diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, diseases of the
cornea, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and a variety of infections and retinal
disorders.” According to Ms. Dunn, “Routine vision exams can also uncover
general health conditions that may go otherwise undetected. Since early
detection and treatment of certain serious conditions can dramatically affect
their lifelong impact, SmartAlert empowers members to help their physicians work
together to achieve total wellness goals.” SmartAlert also supports the
comprehensive disease management programs that may exist as part of the member’s
health plan.
