Sacramento, CA – March 1, 2006
– Rick Corbett, President
and CEO of Superior Vision, has been named President of the National
Association of Vision Care Plans (NAVCP). Mr. Corbett is a founding member
of the managed vision care industry’s premier trade organization, which was
incorporated in December 2002 and made its formal announcement as a
new trade association in April 2003.
NAVCP is a national association established to act as the unified voice
representing the industry. The goal of the association is to provide a forum
of communication. NAVCP is dedicated to improving quality in managed care
and committed to providing input and perspective concerning standards and
credentials.
Managed vision care is a system of
providing pre-funded benefits for eye care needs. Like managed medical
care, this system provides
preventive
care to help detect vision and
eye problems at the earliest stage, while controlling the cost of this
benefit and assuring its quality, both for the plan beneficiaries and the
payers, such as employers.
“I am honored to serve as President of
the NAVCP. Since its inception, the association has been working diligently
to provide a forum for the exchange of information, present a unified voice
for the industry, and improve the quality of managed vision care. As the
association continues to grow, the impact of its work in various arenas –
including legislation, regulations, credentialing and standards – is more
visible and impactful,” said Corbett.
Mr. Corbett joined Superior Vision in
1996. He has over twenty-five years of experience in the managed healthcare
and insurance industries. He formerly served as President and Chief
Operating Officer for Foundation Health National Life Insurance Co., a
subsidiary of Foundation Health Corporation. Corbett's previous positions
include serving as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Blue
Cross and Blue Shield of Ohio (BCBS of Ohio). During his eleven-year career
at BCBS of Ohio, Mr. Corbett served in several key positions launching the
company's initial health maintenance organization (HMO) and preferred
provider organization (PPO) efforts as well as creating a large account
consulting unit. Early in his career, he worked in field sales for Aetna
Life and Casualty. Mr. Corbett received his bachelor's degree from the
University of Detroit and his MBA from the University of Toledo. He also
received the designation of Certified Health Consultant from the Krannert
School of Business at Purdue University.
